Who Killed the Kingfish?
The Huey Long Murder Case
By David Zinman & Michael Wynne February 25 - March 7, 2010
Drama
The 1935 assassination of Senator Huey Long will have its 75th
anniversary in 2010. It remains one of the most hotly debated events
in U.S. history.
The question explored in this production is whether the mild-mannered
Dr. Carl Austin Weiss slipped by the Kingfish's bodyguards to confront
the governor for his intention to slander Weiss' wife and subsequently
shot Long or did the 29-year-old physician merely punch the Kingfish.
Did a wild shot from his own bodyguard kill the boss as their lethal
barrage cut down Weiss? The witnesses were all Long partisans, and
oly if Weiss had survived would the public know his side of the
story. That is the premise of the play. Here, Weiss lives and goes
on trial with the jury selected from the audience each night!
